We have bought the Honey Select variety for at least 3 years now. Serendipity and Incredible taste almost as good and sweet as Honey Select. But there's nothing quite like that pop and burst of sweet flavor when you eat Honey Select. We like it above Serendipity because it is an all-yellow corn. We like it above Incredible because the stalks tend to be heavier and stronger. We have had repeated problems of Incredible getting hit with wind just before it ripened, and it caused the stems to snap totally off, because the ears were too large for the thin stalks. So we lost a lot of perfectly good corn. We have never bought seeds from Hometown. But suffice it to say there's more to growing corn than just planting seeds. The ground must be warm enough for them to germinate, also they cannot be planted too deeply or they won't germinate well. We plant them in only about an inch of dirt and after the corn is 8-10 inches tall, we run the tiller through between the rows and hand hoe the soil up on each side of the row to create a nice mound of soil up the stalks of corn, trying to cover at least 4 inches of corn stalk. This covers and kills any flush of baby weeds that have started growing, as well as holds in additional moisture for the corn plant. We apply 10-10-10 fertilizer at the time of planting (on the ground above the covered seed), at the time of hilling (described above), and often once more in the growing season just before it rains. We get bumper crops of corn enough for us and our neighbors!!
